The Cowboy: An Immersive Journey is a multisensory experience that takes audiences through the landscapes, atmospheres, and transformations of the American West. The immersive narrative unfolds through emblematic scenes: a sudden storm threatening to turn a cattle drive into a stampede, the iconic image of a campfire fading beneath a star-filled sky, the construction of the great railroads and the rise of the Wild West Show myth, culminating in cinematic sequences inspired by landmark films such as Tombstone, Stagecoach, and classic works by Sergio Leone.

Opened to the public on January 2, 2026, the experience is hosted in the Kerr Gallery, an exhibition space of approximately 10,000 square feet, specifically configured to accommodate the immersive installation.

The environment is fully projected in 360 degrees and is characterized by expansive landscape imagery, cinema-quality sound, and an accurate rendering of historical visuals. Among the materials featured are original photographs and posters drawn from the Dickinson Research Center, part of the museum’s collections.

The narrative journey is partially guided by the authentic journal of 19th-century cowboy Jack Bailey, one of the historical documents preserved by the institution. The experience is narrated by Tom Selleck, with original musical contributions by Montie Carol Montgomery, recipient of the Western Heritage Award.

The Cowboy: An Immersive Journey has an overall duration of approximately 40 minutes.
