The immersive exhibition Vermeer – Meister der Lichts is a digital journey into the Dutch Era, the Golden Age of the Netherlands.
Through Jan Vermeer‘s expressive paintings, the exhibition narrates the history of the Netherlands and the life of the seafaring nation in the 17th century, a time when it was a major world power, leading in painting, science, and economy, and very wealthy. Large projections of Vermeer’s predominantly small-scale paintings highlight his unique eye for details. Everyday moments, shimmering fabrics, shadows, or a letter on a table transform around the viewer into nearly living paintings.
Vermeer turns the ordinary into the extraordinary. With initially unremarkable domestic scenes, the painter captures our attention in an incomparable way, offering intimate glimpses into life over 350 years ago.
